Integrating systems eliminates clinicians jumping through hoops

Community Health Centers of the Central Coast (CHCCC) is a federally qualified health center serving low-income and vulnerable populations across 26 medical and dental clinics and four mobile vans. CHCCC had long used NextGen Practice Management and Ambulatory EHR but faced challenges with separate medical and dental systems that forced inefficient “backdoor” workarounds, impeded access to complete patient records during visits, and complicated documentation and billing.

CHCCC implemented an integrated solution—NextGen Ambulatory EHR, NextGen Practice Management and NextGen EDR 5.0 (as a beta client)—giving providers a unified view of medical and dental histories before encounters. The integration streamlined workflow and billing, improved patient safety (especially medication management), strengthened UDS reporting, and enabled staff to identify care gaps and recommend complementary services without “jumping through hoops.”
