Integrating physical and behavioral health for better outcomes

Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JFCS) is a non‑profit behavioral health and social services agency in Maricopa County, Arizona, serving about 36,000 people annually across five outpatient clinics and multiple sites. Facing growing reporting requirements, data‑sharing needs, and the industry push to integrate physical and behavioral healthcare, JFCS needed a customizable, integrated EHR and IT solution to improve clinical decision‑making, population health management, contract compliance, and enable continued growth.

JFCS implemented the NextGen suite — Ambulatory EHR, Practice Management, Patient Portal, Health Information Exchange participation with BHINAZ, and a NextPen pilot — to streamline documentation, data exchange, and workflows. As a result they achieved 95% treatment‑plan completion and 96% assessment completion within 30 days (exceeding the 85% contract requirement), improved first‑time claims adjudication into the 90s, demonstrated better outcome tracking and reporting, successfully attested for MU1 while preparing for MU2, and rolled out patient portal and data‑capture improvements.
