Horizon Eye Care Ensures Positive Growth and Ongoing Flexibility With EHR/PM System

Horizon Eye Care is a six-location ophthalmology practice in southern New Jersey with 10 physicians seeing about 150–200 patients a day. As the practice grew, its 17‑year‑old UNIX system could not support secure, up-to-date documentation, imaging and practice-management needs, creating compliance risks and workflow inefficiencies.

HEC implemented NextGen Practice Management and NextGen Ambulatory EHR (with ePrescribing and device interfaces) to provide ophthalmology-specific templates, integrated imaging, and automated billing/reporting. The solution improved documentation and coding (claims clean rate rose from ~87% to ~97%), enabled easy multi-site charting and successful Medicare audits, reduced A/R days (31 to 26) and staffing/transcription costs, and increased clinician satisfaction and quality of care.
