Using Nextcloud as an on-premise solution for office and file sync and share

Sorbonne University, a major educational institution in Paris, sought an on-premise solution to provide file sync and share capabilities for its 10,000 employees and 55,000 students. Their challenge was to offer a sovereign cloud alternative to services like Google and Microsoft that would keep data on-site, comply with strict data protection policies, and be entirely managed by their own IT teams.

They implemented Nextcloud Hub through their partner Arawa, creating a custom-branded service called DropSU. The solution featured a high-availability infrastructure with load balancing and tight integration with existing directory services. The implementation by Nextcloud was a success, quickly growing to several thousand active staff accounts and storing 40TB of data while fulfilling all the university's sovereignty and usability requirements.
