Migration of MagentaCLOUD to Nextcloud by T-Systems

T-Systems, the IT business-customer affiliate of Deutsche Telekom, faced the complex challenge of migrating its massive MagentaCLOUD service from a third-party platform. The goal was to bring the entire platform on-premise to their own Open Telekom Cloud infrastructure while the service remained active for its millions of users. This required a live migration of a large volume of data to a new solution that could offer greater flexibility, improved data sovereignty, and advanced functionalities for its customers.

The vendor, Nextcloud, provided the solution: a whitelabeled version of its software, including Nextcloud Files, Photos, and Office. T-Systems implemented this on their Open Telekom Cloud and utilized their own Vamosa Migration Architect software to execute the data transfer, achieving migration speeds upwards of 70TB per day and completing the project ahead of schedule. The result is a new, fully-equipped MagentaCLOUD that provides users with a robust content collaboration platform, ensures all data is hosted in Germany under strict GDPR compliance, and gives Deutsche Telekom complete control over its data security and future development.
