Case Study: IVZ achieves secure, high-performance file collaboration with Nextcloud

A Nextcloud Case Study

Germany’s public radio and television deploys Nextcloud

IVZ, a shared services organization for Germany's public broadcasting companies, faced significant challenges with employees using disparate consumer-grade cloud solutions for file exchange and collaboration. This practice raised major security concerns for journalists working with sensitive data, caused network complications, and created collaboration silos. To address this, IVZ sought to deploy a centralized, secure, and high-performance enterprise file sync and share solution that could handle large media files and integrate with their existing on-premises infrastructure.

IVZ implemented a self-hosted Nextcloud Enterprise solution, choosing it for its open-source nature, performance with large files, and robust on-premises control. The migration from a previous system to Nextcloud resulted in dramatically improved support, stability, and performance. The platform, branded as ARD-ZDF-Box, is now used by over 8,000 employees, facilitating the seamless transfer of nearly one terabyte of data daily, including multi-gigabyte video files from journalists in the field to production studios in Germany. Nextcloud provided the secure, unified collaboration platform IVZ required, consolidating tools and simplifying workflows across the organization.
