Sata Disk System Eliminates Tape a Nexsan Case Study of Lenox Hill Radiology

Lenox Hill Radiology, a provider of advanced diagnostic imaging services, needed to replace a tape-based PACS archive that could no longer keep up with growing image volumes, performance demands, and HIPAA retention requirements. As their archive expanded to 14 TB and studies such as mammography and CT continued to grow in size, they needed a more scalable, secure, and reliable storage approach. Nexsan, working through Maureen Data Systems, was selected to address these challenges with its secure archive solution, Assureon, alongside Nexsan SATABeast for primary storage.

Nexsan implemented a disk-based archive architecture centered on Assureon, which replaced the legacy tape system and integrated with GE Healthcare Centricity PACS-IW. The result was dramatically faster image access—reported to be up to 100 times faster than tape—plus automated HIPAA auditing, integrity checking, encryption, and replication for business continuity. Lenox Hill Radiology said the solution improved operational efficiency by at least 25% and reduced costs by 50% versus other disk-based archive options, while also boosting archive management efficiency by 75%.
