Leading Research University Chooses Nexsan Unified Hybrid Storage for Performance in a Virtualized Environment

Case Western Reserve University, a leading research university in Cleveland, needed a storage platform that could support 200TB of block and file data today and scale toward a petabyte tomorrow. The university also required high performance, high capacity, strong availability, reliability, and no single point of failure for its research workloads and planned VMware environment. Nexsan’s Unified Hybrid Storage was selected to meet these demands.

Nexsan implemented two Unified Hybrid Storage systems to support the university’s HPC cluster, imaging, data transfer, archiving, and expanding virtual server environment. The solution delivered iSCSI block storage and NFS/CIFS shared folders, up to 54,000 IOPS, and scalable capacity to 5PB, while offering caching acceleration, snapshots, replication, thin provisioning, and online expansion. According to Case Western Reserve University, Nexsan provided the best price/performance, could grow with the institution, and was available immediately; the systems now support campus-wide research storage needs.
