Case Study: Caltech Achieves Reliable, Power-Efficient Storage with Nexsan

A Nexsan Case Study

Preview of the Caltech Case Study

Caltech Relies on Nexsan Reliability and Power Efficiency To Store Two Petabytes of Critical Nasa Data

Caltech, the operational home for NASA’s Spitzer Science Center, needed a reliable and cost-effective way to store and manage rapidly growing volumes of critical infrared image data. To support more than 2 petabytes of mission data and ongoing 100 TB research additions, Caltech turned to Nexsan storage solutions, including SATABeast, SATABoy, and E-Series systems.

Nexsan implemented its E-Series disk-based storage with AutoMAID energy-saving technology, alongside existing Nexsan systems, to deliver high reliability, simplified operations, and lower power usage. The result was estimated 99.9% hardware reliability over seven years, up to 70% power savings on 50% of the storage systems, and a lower total cost of ownership for Caltech’s critical NASA data environment.
