Research and Development Department European Organisation - Customer Case Study

The Research and Development Department of a European organisation asked Nexor to investigate how Ubuntu Linux could be configured to boot securely, in line with UK national security guidance from CESG. The challenge was to identify the components needed for secure boot and demonstrate that the approach could work on a user device.

Nexor researched and integrated relevant open source components, added a small firmware module to start the boot chain, and demonstrated a laptop securely booting into Ubuntu Linux. It also extended the work to runtime protection using Integrity Measurement Architecture (IMA) appraisal, and the solution was validated by third-party experts. Nexor delivered the demonstrable system within three months, helping the customer advance plans to adopt Ubuntu Linux and filling an important security gap.
