MasterControl, a Salt Lake City–based provider of process and document management software for highly regulated life sciences companies, needed to prove its own compliance to customers with large government contracts. Its legacy expense-reporting process was manual and error-prone, causing inconsistent use-tax accruals, slow P&L reporting and a three- to five‑minute entry time per expense line that delayed accruals.

MasterControl deployed Nexonia Expenses integrated with NetSuite ERP to automate use-tax calculation and accruals, mobile receipt capture, credit‑card feeds and automated reminders, with direct posting to the general ledger. The change ensured compliance (including Utah use-tax rules), cut month‑end accrual time by roughly 50%, saved about 20 hours per week in accounting work, eliminated much of the manual data entry and improved audit transparency.
