NEXGEN Boosts Maintenance Efficiency and Labor Productivity for CMSA

Central Marin Sanitation Agency (CMSA) operates the largest wastewater treatment plant in Marin County, treating about 6 billion gallons per year and maintaining roughly 2,500 assets with 45 staff (including 9 maintenance personnel and 3 operators) across the plant and 21 remote stations. CMSA struggled with clunky, poorly configurable CMMS solutions before engaging NEXGEN, leaving at least 95% of maintenance unplanned and more than 700 open preventive maintenance (PM) work orders for just three mechanics.

NEXGEN was selected in 2008 for its configurable CMMS/asset management platform and asset planning modules; its implementers fine-tuned CMSA’s PM program and deployed NEXGEN Asset Management Mobile at the 21 remote stations. Within a year planned maintenance rose from 5% to 75%, and remote-station labor requirements fell by more than 40%, freeing mechanics to focus on preventive work and driving a lasting shift from reactive to proactive maintenance under NEXGEN.
