Wipro Makes Virtual Desktops Affordable with Nexenta Storage

Wipro, a global IT and consulting firm based in Bangalore, launched VirtuaDesk to address the inefficiency and cost of managing physical desktops across multiple sites. Traditional VDI had been too complex and expensive for wide adoption, so Wipro set out to deliver a more accessible Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) offering that lowers TCO, improves security and supports BYOD.

Wipro integrated VirtuaDesk with NexentaStor on x86 hardware (deployed across four Indian data centers, ~1 PB today) to provision persistent virtual desktops and automate storage and user mapping. The rollout has migrated over 15,000 employees, delivering faster provisioning, reduced downtime, lower per-seat storage costs (storage is ~60% of VDI hardware cost), productivity gains, and ongoing cost savings—and positions Wipro to generate new revenue by offering the solution to customers.
