A Nexenta Case Study
Trinkwasserversorgung Magdeburg GmbH (TWM) is a regional water supplier in Germany serving over 800,000 residents across six counties. Rapidly growing customer and product data, plus a server consolidation into VMware, created a need for high availability, site-to-site replication, and strong performance for critical lab and reporting applications—requirements that legacy storage bids exceeded (more than €100,000) and that existing backup tools could not meet.
TWM engaged Zstor to deploy a NexentaStor High Availability cluster on Dell/VMware and Supermicro hardware using mirrored ZFS RAID Z and NFS/CIFS access. The solution integrated with VMware for unlimited VM cloning and replication, supported future SSD expansion, and provided GUI-driven disaster recovery usable by non-IT staff. The result was improved performance and resilience, open-ended scalability, simplified recovery without additional specialist staff, and substantial cost savings while meeting TWM’s availability and growth needs.
