TerraTel, a Gothenburg-based web hosting and ISP services provider founded in 1994, needed to modernize its storage after moving to a VMware environment. Its existing mix of SANs could not meet performance or uptime requirements, costs were running about three times budget, and the company needed a consolidated, reliable enterprise storage solution that would control costs and support SLAs.

Working with channel partner Layer 8, TerraTel deployed NexentaStor (Nexenta 3.1.3) on Cisco hardware as two SANs providing NFS backend storage for VMware. The OpenStorage solution delivered enterprise features—hybrid pools, unlimited snapshots and thin provisioning—at under one-third the cost of a comparable Oracle SAN, while boosting performance, staff productivity and scalability and freeing capital for other IT needs.
