Stadtwerke Tuttlingen - Customer Case Study

Stadtwerke Tuttlingen (SWT) is a regional utilities provider in southwest Germany serving about 34,200 residents with electricity, gas, water and broadband services. After consolidating its environment into 50 VMware VMs across two data centres, SWT faced an aging, poorly optimized Fibre Channel storage backend (Datacore) that could not support planned VDI work and risked end-of-life licensing—creating an urgent need for a high-performance, flexible and highly available storage replacement.

SWT chose a NexentaStor-based solution—two NFS storage arrays in an HA cluster (2x HP head nodes and 2x HP JBODs, ~60 TB) installed by partner Sievers Group—to underpin its headquarters data centre. The deployment delivered higher performance, simpler administration, scalable capacity and lower ongoing costs, with enterprise features like unlimited snapshots, thin provisioning and multi-protocol support while avoiding vendor lock‑in.
