Simply Mail Solutions (SMS) is a Warrington, UK–based email, web and server hosting provider whose rapid customer growth and rising email/Web traffic exposed limits in its legacy storage infrastructure. Upgrading with the incumbent vendor was prohibitively expensive and would risk hardware lock‑in, so SMS needed an agile, hardware‑agnostic, scalable solution that could handle ever‑increasing IOPS while keeping costs and vendor dependence under control.

SMS deployed a NexentaStor SAN (via VA Technologies) using ZFS, SSD caching, deduplication and replication to deliver high performance and enterprise‑class redundancy for its mailboxes (≈1TB and growing). The new platform provided fast, secure customer data access, drastically reduced system management time (about 90% less), improved performance and scalability with commodity hardware, and enabled predictable cost control as the business continues to expand.
