Rivebit, a North Italy SME-focused cloud and virtualization provider founded by Roberto Bondavalli, needed a storage platform that could deliver large-scale capacity with strong performance to support its cloud backup service and replicated two‑data‑centre environment (two VMware ESXi servers per site hosting ~50 VMs each). Previous commercial and open‑source solutions failed to combine the scale, stability and cross‑site replication performance Rivebit required.

Rivebit deployed NexentaStor on a SuperMicro SC‑847E26 appliance (24 TB initial capacity, 10 Gb NICs, expandable to ~100 TB). The ZFS‑based solution was quick to install and delivers unlimited snapshots, online capacity expansion, hot‑swap drive support and enterprise functionality without vendor lock‑in. Results included much faster VDI/Exchange performance (VM power‑up from 60s to 15s), storage management time cut from ~4 hours/week to 30 minutes, reliable cross‑site backups and rapid recovery, plus strong vendor support.
