A Nexenta Case Study
Delano Regional Medical Center, a 156‑bed regional teaching hospital serving 10 rural central California towns, needed to modernize its storage and recovery environment to handle rapidly growing medical data. Its VMware View VDI on NetApp suffered severe IOPS constraints that slowed performance and blocked VM updates, and a vendor‑recommended $120,000 forklift upgrade was unaffordable — DRMC needed a cost‑effective, high‑availability disaster recovery solution for roughly 18 TB of data.
DRMC implemented a NexentaStor High Availability cluster on industry‑standard servers, repurposing existing hardware and adding SSD caching, inline data reduction/compression, and unlimited snapshots/clones with active/active shared storage. The deployment delivered much higher IOPS, simplified management, easier scaling, and improved uptime, while reducing VDI storage costs by as much as 75% and boosting IT productivity.
