A Nexenta Case Study
The Municipality of Rheden, a Dutch local government serving about 44,000 residents with a heavily virtualized IT environment, faced performance and capacity limits on its aging HP EVA 4000 storage. It needed a fast, scalable replacement that would meet strict performance targets, support 10G connectivity, and provide a second site for disaster recovery and testing while handling growth for the next five years.
Rheden deployed NexentaStor with Auto‑Sync across two data centers connected by 10G fiber, using nightly replication, snapshot-based restores and tape backups for DR. The solution delivered ZFS features (deduplication, snapshots, NFS/CIFS/iSCSI support), simplified management, met performance and capacity requirements, allowed license portability for a future municipal merger, and saved the municipality roughly €100,000 versus proprietary alternatives.
