A Nexenta Case Study
Mokko Studio, a Montreal-based visual effects and animation company with more than 70 artists, was struggling with rapid daily data growth, high network throughput demands and a fragmented environment supporting Linux, Windows and macOS. Their storage system was slow, required weekly data grooming to free space, and needed a single, manageable file system to support both 100 users and a large render farm without productivity slowdowns.
Mokko deployed NexentaStor on x86 hardware (170 TB usable across JBODs) as a software-defined storage solution, gaining AD/NIS compatibility and unlimited snapshots. The new setup delivered low-latency NFS/CIFS performance, better I/O per watt, reduced hardware needs and simpler management, while cutting total solution cost by roughly 40% versus competitors and providing predictable scalability.
