Japanese hosting service increases performance and functionality but keeps prices low with Nexenta

GMO Internet, operator of the ConoHa hosting service and a market leader in Japanese domain and hosting services, needed to boost performance, add functionality (including foreign datacenter services) and keep prices low to stay competitive. Traditional appliance storage couldn’t meet its requirements for multi-site, all‑flash performance and tight OpenStack integration, so GMO sought a high‑performance software‑defined storage solution.

GMO deployed Dell PowerEdge servers with NexentaStor all‑flash SDS tightly integrated with OpenStack (Cinder), replacing legacy appliances. The new platform removed the need for a separate CDN for video streaming, improved infrastructure efficiency by over 150%, cut storage costs by an estimated 50–70% versus other SDS options, and enabled low‑cost, easy scaling and more features at the same monthly price—driving higher customer satisfaction and subscription growth.
