Impulse Advanced Communications - Customer Case Study

Impulse Advanced Communications, a Santa Barbara–based provider of enterprise communications and managed IT services, needed cost-effective, flexible storage with better performance. After outgrowing legacy vendors (NetApp) and finding EMC’s NS352 capped at 2 GB/sec throughput and costly to expand, Impulse sought a solution to improve disk I/O and latencies while reducing storage, power, and space costs.

Impulse deployed NexentaStor 3.0.4 on a pretested Pogo StorageDirector Z2 HA Cluster SAN (24TB with expansion), leveraging ZFS features like inline deduplication, snapshots, thin provisioning, and active-active high availability. The implementation supported VMware and dual data‑center active-active configurations, eliminated single points of failure with automated failover, improved throughput and latency, and delivered measurable cost and capacity gains for hundreds of servers, thousands of websites, and 10,000 mailboxes.
