GridSouth Networks is a privately owned managed service provider offering high-capacity networking and VMware hosting. Rapid growth created pressing storage challenges: insufficient capacity and access, the need for cost-effective, replaceable hardware, unified support for iSCSI/NFS/CIFS, centralized management, and a solution that avoided LUN-size limits and vendor price markups.

GridSouth implemented NexentaStor (ZFS-based) on commodity hardware, deploying mirrored controllers and iSCSI/NFS/CIFS storage to support its virtual environment (78 VMs). The new solution removed LUN limitations, simplified management with an intuitive web UI, improved performance and backup/recovery, and delivered roughly 70% cost savings versus the legacy system—enabling an easier, lower-cost growth path.
