Bergen-based Dataoppdrag AS provides hosting and managed services for business customers, running over 100 physical servers and 300 VMs. Rapid customer growth exposed limits in their legacy storage platform—insufficient performance, flexibility and scalability—and the mirrored-system approach required for high availability was too costly, forcing frequent hardware purchases.

Dataoppdrag deployed NexentaStor (ZFS) on two Supermicro appliances (100TB raw / 40TB usable) for VM storage (iSCSI/NFS) and NAS (CIFS), with replication to a 15 km disaster‑recovery site. The ZFS-based solution preserved low latency at peak load, halved hardware requirements, enabled instant restores via snapshots, and delivered the scalable, high‑availability storage and open‑source flexibility the company needed.
