Budd Van Lines Keeps Storage Data Moving with Nexenta

Budd Van Lines, a nationwide household goods carrier based in Somerset, NJ, faced rapidly growing storage needs after upgrading to 1080p security cameras and later adding GPS/IoT data collection. The company’s existing SAN and NAS infrastructure was overwhelmed by larger, longer‑retained video and corporate data volumes across six warehouses and a distributed workforce.

Budd deployed NexentaStor on commodity Supermicro hardware (with reseller support from Coastline Micro) to run Tier‑1 storage and VMware workloads. The solution expanded capacity to 148 TB raw (video 1 TB → 84 TB; VMware 11 TB → 32 TB; replication/archive 0 → 32 TB), improved I/O by nearly 300%, replicates 6 TB of production data every 15 minutes (RPO = 15 minutes), maintains three years of snapshots, and delivered cost savings, high availability, vendor interoperability, and responsive support.
