A Nexenta Case Study
Budd Van Lines, a nationwide executive relocation company, was facing rapidly growing corporate data and high‑resolution video from new IP cameras that overwhelmed its aging SAN/NAS. The existing storage was full, required frequent maintenance, and a forklift upgrade from incumbent vendors was prohibitively expensive; the company also needed replication to a second site for disaster recovery and better support for virtual machines.
Budd deployed NexentaStor with an HA cluster—mirrored and RAID‑Z VDEVs, ZIL and SSD caching, and NFS/CIFS shares—plus replication to an Ohio DR site and a dedicated ~60TB video pool. The new design tripled I/O performance for VMware workloads, enabled snapshot-based file recovery, reduced storage needs via compression (≈40%), lowered total cost and downtime, and delivered scalable, enterprise‑grade storage and disaster recovery.
