A Nexenta Case Study
EngineRoom.io, a Sydney-based Big Data Platform-as-a-Service provider, needed a scalable, flexible storage solution to handle fluctuating terabytes-to-petabytes of structured, unstructured and streaming data. After evaluating 20–30 options, the company found traditional offerings lacking on total cost of ownership, vendor lock-in, scalability, licensing and support, and required a fast time-to-market, simplicity and strong technical backing.
EngineRoom.io implemented NexentaStor software-defined storage in two HA clusters with SSD and Fusion-IO caching, integrated with VMware and Brocade networking. The deployment delivered high-performance, linear scale-out IOPS plus deduplication, snapshots, compression and high availability, cut implementation costs to about one-twentieth of competing solutions, and reclaimed hundreds of admin hours—enabling faster R&D and a stronger competitive position.
