A Newsela Case Study

Preview of the Beaverton School District Case Study

How one district leveraged Newsela Professional Learning to help teachers more effectively differentiate instruction

The Beaverton School District faced the challenge of helping its teachers effectively differentiate instruction for a diverse student population, including a significant number of Spanish-speaking English language learners. While they had the Newsela content platform, teachers needed more support on implementation. They sought a solution from vendor Newsela to bridge the gap between having a powerful tool and knowing how to use it strategically in the classroom.

Newsela addressed this need through its customized Newsela Professional Learning service, which provided flexible, relevant training sessions on both differentiation best practices and platform usage. The solution included in-person and virtual sessions, subject-specific training, and resources curated by a former educator. The partnership trained over 150 teachers through 12 sessions, empowering them to immediately apply new tools in their lessons and plan for long-term professional development.
