Garland ISD helps 52,300 students build background knowledge with Newsela Social Studies

Garland ISD, a school district in Texas, needed high-quality resources to support a new Mexican American Studies course. The district required content with depth, context, and standards alignment to effectively teach this state-specific subject. They turned to the vendor Newsela and its Newsela Social Studies product to address this challenge.

The solution involved adopting Newsela Social Studies and working with Newsela's curricular specialists to integrate texts and activities directly into the curriculum. This provided teachers with timely articles, leveled texts, and Spanish versions to build student background knowledge and make lessons more accessible. As a result, Newsela helped Garland ISD bring social studies to life by connecting history to the present day and supporting all learners.
