The Cabinet Office worked with New Signature to help the Met Office release large volumes of weather data openly and freely through data.gov.uk. The challenge was to quickly deploy a flexible, more sophisticated download service for frequent weather datasets, using Microsoft Azure to support the initiative.

New Signature delivered the solution in just a few weeks, building a cloud-based service that made the data available through a web browser or in Excel via the free OData plug-in from the Microsoft Azure Marketplace. New Signature’s work enabled daily and hourly forecasts for up to five days ahead, plus raw observation data, helping businesses, developers, and others create their own weather services and forecasts.
