A New Boundary Case Study
The U.S. Geological Survey’s Orlando office supports roughly 60 users (about 70 workstations, 75% laptops) with a single IT specialist, and struggled with time-consuming, manual software installs that disrupted users and were impractical for field-used laptops. Limited access to systems, frequent downtime during installations, and the need for occasional temporary staff made desktop management costly and inefficient.
The office deployed New Boundary Technologies’ Prism Suite to automate software deployment, pushing customized packages that install at next logon or silently in the background (for example, a multi-GB ArcGIS install completes in ~15 minutes while users work). Combined with a 20-minute Ghost image provisioning workflow, Prism Suite eliminated interruptions, sped device replacement, and delivered an estimated $100,000 annual savings; the team also plans to expand use of Prism’s asset and patch management modules.
