A New Boundary Case Study
An unnamed healthcare provider needed to secure electronic patient health information (EPHI) and meet HIPAA IT security requirements across a widely distributed environment—one central office, hundreds of remote offices, about 600 VPN users, and dozens of internal nodes. The main challenge was enforcing consistent Windows security configurations for both remote and internal systems while minimizing ongoing administrative effort.
The organization licensed Policy Commander® from New Boundary Technologies, using its HIPAA security configuration guide and policy library to translate HIPAA requirements into enforceable Windows policies. Automated enforcement, Active Directory integration, and a customizable Policy Editor created a self-monitoring, self-correcting configuration environment. As a result, the company achieved HIPAA-aligned compliance on hundreds of remote systems and 80 internal systems, gaining improved visibility, tighter control, and reduced administrator intervention; they also paired Policy Commander with Prism Suite™ for software distribution.
