Spotify wanted to launch its service in India with a memorable music-led campaign, but needed to find a tune that would resonate with a billion potential customers across many languages and genres. Spotify worked with Neurons, using consumer neuroscience and machine learning to help identify the music and creative direction most likely to connect with the local audience.

Neurons tested listeners with EEG brain monitoring while they heard a playlist of India’s top hits, measuring emotional arousal and motivation to determine which sounds were most engaging. The insights helped Spotify and its creators build “the beat of a billion” release video, which led to a stunning ad campaign and significantly boosted Spotify sales in India.
