Low Cost Password Management in California Public Schools

Nevada Joint Union High School District, a California K–12 district serving about 10,000 users across multiple feeder schools and separate Active Directory domains, faced a growing helpdesk burden from mandatory 90‑day password changes. Off‑site teachers couldn’t perform password resets themselves, leading to frequent forgotten passwords, account lockouts and excessive IT time spent on password support.

Using State K‑12 Ed‑Tech Voucher funding, the district deployed NetWrix Password Manager and Password Expiration Notifier — a low‑maintenance, web‑based self‑service portal plus automated expiration alerts. The solution was easy to set up and let teachers reset passwords and unlock accounts themselves while receiving advance expiration warnings, which significantly reduced helpdesk reset requests and password‑expiration lockouts and freed IT staff to focus on other priorities.
