Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative Saves 50 Hours Every Week on Security Monitoring

Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative (GVEC), one of Texas’s largest cooperatives serving more than 85,000 customers, runs a 99% virtualized IT environment with two data centers, four domain controllers and six SQL databases. With 350+ network users to monitor, the IT team needed better visibility to mitigate insider misuse and protect both critical grid operations and sensitive customer data.

GVEC deployed Netwrix Auditor for Active Directory, Windows Server, VMware and SQL Server to centralize activity and configuration monitoring. The solution consolidated reports so the system analyst can review scheduled alerts in about 10 minutes a day; within four months GVEC removed over 50 inactive AD accounts, detected unauthorized SQL and privilege changes, tightened procedures, and reclaimed more than 50 hours per week on security monitoring.
