Case Study: Vattenfall achieves smarter low-voltage grid operations with Networked Energy Services

A Networked Energy Services Case Study

Preview of the Vattenfall Case Study

Vattenfall’s Deployment of the NES System is an Industry Benchmark that also Established an Intelligent Low Voltage Grid

The European energy company Vattenfall needed to comply with a new law requiring monthly meter readings for its 860,000 customers in Sweden. This challenge was part of a larger multi-phase project to modernize its infrastructure, and it sought a solution to automate meter reading and gain greater visibility into its low-voltage grid, which was previously a data "black hole." The vendor, Networked Energy Services (NES), provided its NES System smart metering technology and infrastructure.

Networked Energy Services delivered a comprehensive smart metering solution, which included the installation of 600,000 smart meters and the Titanium Information System for data management. The implementation allowed Vattenfall to not only automate readings with a 99%+ daily success rate but also to utilize advanced functions like outage detection, power quality monitoring, and remote load management. The results were better than expected, providing Vattenfall with a cost-effective, intelligent low-voltage grid that enabled proactive operational improvements and established the project as an industry benchmark.
