Vattenfall deploys 600,000 smart meters with Networked Energy Services and exceeds 99% daily success rates

Vattenfall, a major European electricity generator, faced the challenge of complying with new regulations requiring monthly meter readings and data provision for its 860,000 customers in Sweden. Their initial automated meter reading (AMR) projects provided limited functionality. To address this, they partnered with vendor Networked Energy Services (NES) for a large-scale deployment of the NES System smart meters to automate readings and gain greater grid intelligence.

The Networked Energy Services solution provided far more capabilities than planned, including remote upgrades, power quality data, and comprehensive tamper detection. The successful deployment established an intelligent low-voltage grid monitoring system, which was highly cost-effective with a daily data success rate above 99%. This provided Vattenfall with unprecedented visibility, enabling proactive identification of grid issues, improved power quality management, and smarter service restoration, ultimately lowering operational expenditures and improving customer satisfaction.
