LINZ NETZ - Customer Case Study

LINZ NETZ, the distribution network operator serving the greater Linz area and parts of Upper Austria, needed a future-proof smart metering solution to improve billing, enable remote connections and disconnections, support load management, and prepare for changing regulatory and security requirements. Networked Energy Services (NES) provided the smart metering platform used in the project, including smart meters, data concentrators, and a head-end system.

Networked Energy Services implemented an OSGP-based smart grid and smart metering system that integrated with LINZ NETZ’s SAP environment, web portal, load management, and other utility systems. The solution enabled automatic meter reading, remote firmware and configuration updates, power quality monitoring, and stronger security features such as encryption and role-based access control. LINZ NETZ reported reliable communications, improved operating efficiency, lower costs, and a scalable platform that could expand by more than 80,000 meters in the next phase, with an optional 60,000 additional meters.
