A Networked Energy Services Case Study
Rapfund, a property company managing retail centers in South Africa, faced challenges in managing cash flow and providing equitable utility billing for tenants, especially during grid outages. The vendor, Networked Energy Services (NES), along with its partner RMS, provided a solution built on NES's smart meters and the OSGP standard to create a transparent sub-metering model.
The solution from Networked Energy Services involved deploying smart meters for accurate, remote metering and control, integrated with RMS's cloud-based billing and e-wallet portal. This allowed Rapfund to implement a pre-pay system, ensure fair dual-source billing during blackouts, and give tenants control over their utility spending. The results for Rapfund's 70,000 square meters of retail space include managing 307 tenants, generating approximately $3.4 million in annual utility revenue, and creating a win-win business model that supports commerce.
