Grid Visibility Using Smart Metering Data

Ravdex, a Danish distribution services operator, faced the challenge of preparing its low-voltage grid for a massive government-mandated increase in electric vehicles and renewable energy. The small utility needed profound visibility into its grid to identify inefficiencies, overloads, and areas requiring investment, but found traditional methods like sensors and field visits to be expensive and insufficient. To gain the necessary actionable intelligence, Ravdex turned to vendor Networked Energy Services, investing in their industry-leading smart meters to act as a saturation network of measurement points.

The solution implemented by Networked Energy Services involved deploying their smart meters with a dual communications path, facilitated by Develco and integrated by OneCo. This allowed Ravdex to gather a high volume of granular data on voltage, power, and other supply parameters both reliably and in near real-time. The results provided exceptional grid visibility, enabling predictive error detection, load management, and data-driven business decisions. This has positioned Ravdex as a key player in Denmark's energy transition, providing the foundation to support the planned deployment of hundreds of thousands of new electric vehicles.
