National Insurance Company Uses Netskope to Consolidate Usage on Corporate-Sanctioned Office 365

A 20,000-employee North American insurance company faced uncontrolled cloud app use after a board-level move to the cloud: discovery found more than 1,000 cloud apps in use, including over 100 alternatives to the corporate-sanctioned Office 365 suite. IT needed a way to corral users onto sanctioned, enterprise-ready tools without simply blocking apps, while reducing cost, complexity and data exposure.

The company deployed Netskope to discover and monitor cloud usage, used the Cloud Confidence Index to decide which apps to sanction, and coached users to standardize on the “for business” Office 365 versions. As a result, business-version Office 365 usage doubled, “Live” freemium alternatives were nearly halved and competing app use dropped by more than 50%, yielding better visibility, lower cost and risk, reduced data exposure, and improved collaboration.
