Case Study: Hertz achieves seamless, secure mobile POS connectivity and faster customer service with NetMotion Mobility

A NetMotion Case Study

Preview of the Hertz Case Study

NetMotion Mobility® Helps Rental-Car Company Hertz Get Customers Back on the Road

Hertz, which operates more than 1,600 off‑airport "Local Edition" sites, was seeing frequent stalls and lost connections on portable POS tablets (Panasonic Toughbook U1) as they switched between docked wired, Wi‑Fi and AT&T cellular networks. Those interruptions forced staff to restart apps and devices, slowing transactions and frustrating customers, so Hertz evaluated solutions and selected NetMotion, deploying NetMotion Mobility to address the connectivity problems.

NetMotion Mobility provided seamless handoffs between wired and wireless connections without interrupting customer‑service applications, plus encryption and flexible security policies by connection type to protect card data and meet PCI expectations. As a result, NetMotion allowed Hertz to rely on cellular service for new small locations, simplify nationwide device management from a single data center, speed site startups, lower operating costs and improve curbside transaction speed and overall customer service.
