Jamstack Helps American Civil Liberties Union Quickly Respond, Inform

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) needed a faster, more flexible way to deliver timely digital experiences, especially for rapid-response campaigns like voting information during the 2020 election. After outgrowing a monolithic CMS-based approach, the nonprofit turned to Netlify and the Jamstack model to support incremental web development, reusable services, and quicker deployment across its growing web presence.

With Netlify supporting its Jamstack workflow, the ACLU built tools like “What the District?,” “Elections API,” and “Let People Vote,” using headless WordPress, Vue, Nuxt, Python, and a shared component library. Netlify helped the ACLU launch a voting site in just weeks, make backend setup happen in a day, and deliver pages so fast that the team added animation so users could notice state changes, enabling quicker campaign launches and more responsive content updates.
