ButcherBox Moves to Headless Commerce

ButcherBox, a fast-growing e-commerce delivery service for quality meats, needed to move beyond its monolithic WordPress/PHP stack as business demands outgrew the plugin ecosystem and page performance began to suffer. To improve agility, speed to market, and the experience for both developers and content teams, the company looked to Netlify and a headless commerce approach.

Netlify helped ButcherBox replatform to a Jamstack architecture with Gatsby, Contentful, Laravel Nova, TypeScript, and Cypress, allowing the team to roll out components incrementally without disrupting the existing site. The results were significant: page speed improved from about four seconds to under one second, a new site could be launched in about an hour, and the new static setup improved security by removing exposure to a traditional PHP server.
