Vodacom, a Pan‑African telecommunications leader serving over 35 million customers, relies heavily on outside contractors who make up roughly one third of its workforce. Managing physical and network access for this dispersed, mobile workforce across hundreds of sites was error‑prone and slow, creating security and compliance risks and preventing new hires from being productive on day one.

Vodacom implemented NetIQ Identity Manager (with NetIQ Access Manager and local partner Ubusha) to create a digital identity vault integrated with SAP HR, Active Directory and physical access controls, and to provide single sign‑on. This automated provisioning and deprovisioning, eliminated manual credential assignment, shrank provisioning from days to hours, ensured immediate revocation of access at exit, and delivered significant administrative time savings while meeting compliance and security objectives.
