VNG (Verbundnetz Gas AG) is a Leipzig-based natural gas producer, importer and wholesaler that needed to meet strict regulatory security requirements by modernizing physical and IT access. The company sought a smart‑card solution integrated into a comprehensive identity management system to automate workflows and simplify security management across multiple locations and vendors.

With NetIQ partner Peak Solution, VNG deployed NetIQ Identity Manager to synchronize SAP HCM, Active Directory, access control, locking and canteen payment systems with an ID Expert smart‑card system. The three‑month implementation centralized account management and automated provisioning—cutting card/account setup from 2–5 days to about two minutes, speeding onboarding for roughly 100 external staff, improving audit trails, security and compliance, and enabling future PKI expansion.
