A NetIQ Case Study
A U.S. local government agency that manages and sells state-owned assets—employing about 700 people and generating multimillion-dollar revenues—needed to provide secure, role-based web access to both internal systems and public information. Concerned about hacks and accidental exposure of internal-only resources, the agency sought a simple, centrally controlled authentication solution for employees and citizens.
The agency upgraded to NetIQ Access Manager with eDirectory, creating separate authentication pools for roughly 700 internal users and 5,000 external citizens and mapping privileges to identities for centralized, role-based control and single sign-on. The solution automated provisioning and password resets, obfuscated web servers, reduced helpdesk workload, improved security and scalability, and proved cost-efficient under per-user licensing; the agency is now piloting NetIQ Identity Manager for further integration.
