A NetIQ Case Study
The University of the Sunshine Coast (USC), a Queensland tertiary institution with over 6,300 students and 500 staff, needed to maintain its open-access ethos while tightening security and cutting IT administration. After the Queensland Audit Office required monitoring of PeopleSoft and TechnologyOne failed logins, USC sought a way to aggregate and monitor logs, reduce repeated credential prompts, and meet audit requirements without exposing confidential data.
USC implemented NetIQ Sentinel with partner Directory Concepts on a SUSE server to collect, normalize and report on logs across systems, using rules-driven alerts to flag suspicious activity in real time. The solution automated monthly log reviews (saving about two staff-days), met audit standards, reduced credential prompts by correlating proxy and network logs, and created a flexible platform for additional automation and monitoring projects.
