A NetIQ Case Study
The University of Westminster, a large London-based higher education institution with about 70,000 student accounts and roughly 7,000 staff (permanent and temporary) plus growing alumni accounts, struggled to deliver fast, secure access across dozens of academic and administrative systems with a small IT team. The university needed rapid provisioning, consistent credentials, and identity management across multiple directories and cloud services without ballooning costs or manual overhead.
The university deployed NetIQ Identity Manager to integrate its NetIQ eDirectory and Microsoft Active Directory instances, create single master identities, and standardize login credentials across internal and external systems. The solution automated provisioning and deprovisioning (handling peaks of up to 10,000 account creations over a weekend), reduced paperwork and manual tasks, enabled cloud authentication (e.g., Blackboard), and lowered support costs while accelerating service delivery.
